Dier was introduced at half-time in that contest, replacing Dayot Upamecano, and helped to secure a clean sheet as Bayern moved back to within four points of leaders Bayer Leverkusen in the German top-flight. He was put on media duty afterwards, and emulated the likes of ex-England boss McClaren and former Manchester City midfielder Joey Barton – from their respective spells at FC Twente and Marseille – by adding a European twang to his comments.
WHAT DIER SAID
Dier told of making his Bayern bow: “Very proud moment for me to make my debut for this club, a very proud moment for me and my family. Obviously I really enjoyed it, playing here, I’m happy to have made my debut in this stadium, it’s even nicer. Hopefully I can continue to help the team.”
He added on working with Kane again: “Obviously it’s a pleasure to play with him, I think the first time we played together was England Under-19s or 20s, so we [have] played together a very long time. It’s a pleasure to play with him, to work with him every day as well, I think we both share a similar style with the way that we work so it’s a pleasure to get to spend every day with him, watch him work and learn from him and work together. It happens that we’re back together here which no one could have imagined but I’m really happy.”
