Walker lost his footing on the treacherous surface and appeared to be in considerable discomfort early on. He received immediate treatment amid fears that he had sustained an ankle injury. Fortunately for England, Walker was able to continue playing after changing his boots, which seemed to provide better traction on the challenging pitch.
The near-miss for Walker did not go unnoticed by Alan Shearer, a former England striker and now a respected football analyst, who was particularly vocal in his criticism. "The surface in Frankfurt is a disgrace," Shearer commented during the live broadcast. "It’s a miracle Kyle Walker didn’t suffer a serious injury out there."
